The Potential for a Light Rail Transit System for Northwest Arkansas

In the Fall of 2004, Greenway, LLC commissioned Beta-Rubicon, Inc. to undertake a pre-feasibility study on the potential for a light rail system for Northwest Arkansas. The study was done in two phases during the period November 2004 through January 2005 and recommended an Action Plan that included a Public Forum to build an informed public awareness of light rail. With the support of a number of sponsors throughout Northwest Arkansas, the Forum, as described on this site, was held on Wednesday, November 16, 2005.

The Northwest Arkansas Light Rail Transit System Public Forum was dedicated to the exploration of the potential for a light rail transit system for the region. The primary objectives of the Forum was the sharing and exchange of information so that potential benefits and disbenefits of an NWA-LRTS are considered in a well-informed, comprehensive, and balanced fashion.

A Call to ACTION

To ensure that the work started with the Forum continues, well-informed and civic-minded individuals need a vehicle for collectively and synergistically pursuing this cause. An ACTION COMMITTEE is under consideration and is expected to form if sufficient interest is expressed by planners, business leaders, researchers, service providers, potential transit systems users, developers, large-scale employers, and other civic-minded individuals.

If you are interested in participating in an ACTION COMMITTEE to support and encourage consideration of a Northwest Arkansas Rail-Based Transit System, please send your contact information by e-mail to: greenway@beta-rubicon.com. You will be provided with with additional information and informed immediately about developments and opportunities coming with the formation of the ACTION COMMITTEE.
